Gary Allan’s traditional country sound and unconventional themes have created fans out of many Americans. His success has rendered him one of today’s popular country artists and, although it may have taken a while to get there, he never lost sight of himself on the way.

Gary Allan Herzberg was born in Montebello , California on December 5, 1967 . He was later raised in La Mirada , California where he became interested in country music and stars like Merle Haggard and Buck Owens. As a teen, he began to play in bars and clubs with his father. Gary got off to a great start with his music career when he was offered a record deal while still in high school.

Despite his early success, Gary decided to wait before signing to a record company. A couple years after graduating, he started a band and made a demo tape. Although it took several years for the tape to attract any attention, Decca Records finally picked it up in 1996 and signed Gary to the company. In that same year, he released his album, Used Heart for Sale and the Top 10 hit, “Her Man.” By 1998, Gary had released his second album, It Would Be You, and his second Top 10 hit, “It Would Be You.”

A year later Decca Records went out of business and Gary was signed to MCA Nashville with his producer, Mark Wright. Gary’s 1999 album, Smoke Rings in the Dark was highly successful, reaching platinum status and pushing Gary to the forefront of the country music scene. The title track, which gained the most popularity, was the driving force behind the success. In 2001, Gary released yet another album, Alright Guy, with the hits, “The One” and “Man to Man,” the No. 1 hit on the country singles charts.

In 2003, Gary was nominated for the CMA Horizon Award despite his several years in the business. That year his album, See If I Care, was released complete with a few hits: “Tough Little Boys,” “Songs About Rain,” and “Nothing On But The Radio.” 2004 proved to be a tragic year for Gary when his wife of three years, Angela, committed suicide. Although Gary did not usually write his own songs, he found that writing them helped him through the loss. He released his next album in 2005, Tough All Over in which he expressed the pain he went through; “Not addressing what happened to my family would have been wrong,” says Allan. “It’s a part of our lives and part of who I am. I absolutely had to work through what had happened through music.” The album included hits like “Best I Ever Had” and “Life Ain’t Always Beautiful.”

In 2007, Gary released his most recent album, Gary Allan: Greatest Hits. The album contains his classic hits that made him an established artist in the country music industry; "Man to Man," "Tough Little Boys" and "Loving You Against My Will" among others. The album also features some new material that blends heartfelt sentiment with his sultry sex appeal, beginning with his most recent single "A Feelin' Like That."
