Terri Clark was born on August 5, 1968 in Montreal, Quebec. Raised in Canada by a music loving family, Terri grew to love singing country and folk music. Her grandparents, Ray and Betty Gauthier, were country musicians in Canada and her mother was a folk musician there as well. It was during her early years in Canada when Terri developed her famous love for cowboy outfits. She brought this love with her to the states in 1987 when she moved to Nashville after her high school graduation.

Terri began playing in Nashville’s Toostsie’s Orchid Lounge. By 1995, she had landed a record deal with Mercury Records and released her first single, “Better Things To Do.” This single brought attention to the rising new star when it reached the No.3 spot on the charts in both the US and Canada. Her self-named debut album was successful with her first single and two other chart-topping singles: “When Boy Meets Girl” and “If I Were You.” Terri’s next two albums, Just the Same in 1997 and How I Feel in 1998 were also great successes. In 1997, her album went platinum with “Poor, Poor Pitiful Me” and “Emotional Girl.” How I Feel became a landmark for Terri when her single, “You’re Easy On The Eyes,” was her first American No. 1 hit.

In 2000, Terri released her fourth album, Fearless. Although this album wasn’t that popular in the United States, it topped the charts in Canada. Still, Terri’s single, “A Little Gasoline,” reached No. 13 in America. Her next album, Pain to Kill, fared much better with “I Wanna Do It All” at No. 2. As her ten year anniversary as an official country artist drew closer in 2004, Terri released her Greatest Hits 1994-2004 album. “Girls Lie Too” was the only single released from the album, but the single went straight to No. 1. By mid 2004, Terri was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, becoming the first Canadian female member.

With her recent success, Terri released another album in 2005. Life Goes On brought in one more single for her in the United States with “She Didn’t Have Time.” After Terri switched to BNA Records in 2007, she began work on her next album. My Next Life is due near the end of the summer in 2007, but her latest hit, “Dirty Girl,” is already making its way to the tops of the charts.
