Since the time the band first played together, Rascal Flatts knew there was something special about their music. Numbers of fans have also found something in their music, as their success rises each day. Despite their accomplishments, Rascal Flatts sees no sign of quitting in their future. “The three of us have wanted to do this since we were kids... we are nowhere near done yet!”
It all started in Columbus, Ohio with second cousins, Gary LeVox and Jay Demarcus. The two were musical during their childhood, especially Jay who took up singing, the guitar, bass, keyboard, mandolin, and other instruments. In 1992, he moved to Nashville and was part of the Christian group, East to West. Five years later, Gary joined Jay in Nashville to pursue their music careers together.
The two cousins worked in a Printer’s Alley club with another guitarist. It was during this time that Jay met Joe Don Rooney from Picher, Oklahoma while working in Chely Wright’s band. Joe got the chance to work with Jay and Gary when the guitarist from the club could not make it one night and Joe was invited to fill in. All three musicians knew that they worked well together and decided to record a few demos. After being noticed by Doug Howard, they were signed to Lyric Street Records.
Rascal Flatts’s self-titled debut album was released in early 2000 and started their year and career on a good note. Songs including “I’m Movin On,” “Prayin’ for Daylight,” and “This Everyday Love” became Top 10 hits. The band gained such fame, that they were able to open for stars including Alan Jackson, Jo Dee Messina, and Toby Keith as well as perform at the Grand Ole Opry and appear on the We Were Soldiers and The Emperor’s New Groove soundtracks. Rascal Flatts then went on to win the 2001 CMA Horizon Award and the ACM New Vocal Group of the Year Award.
In 2002, Rascal Flatts released their second album, Melt, with the No. 1 hit, “These Days.” That same year, the group also won the ACM Song of the Year Award for “These Days,” and the CMA Horizon Award. With 2004 came Rascal Flatts’s album, Feels Like Today featuring the songs, “Bless The Broken Road” and “Skin (Sarabeth).”
The band released their most recent album, Me and My Gang in April of 2006. Featured on the album are their newest hit songs "What Hurts the Most," and "Me and My Gang."
